The scholarships listed below are provided by various organizations throughout Yukon.

In addition to these scholarships, various community groups, religious organizations, First Nations, financial institutions and businesses may also have funding options worth exploring. Your high school counselor or an advisor at your institution may have more information as well. Searching the internet can be useful, too. Research as many options as you can to get a good idea of what’s available and when and how to apply.

When applying for any of the scholarships below, please do not send your applications to the Student Financial Assistance Office unless requested to do so.

Association of Yukon Communities

Association of Yukon Communities Scholarship
Amount: two awards, $500 each
Eligibility

  • Applications will be accepted from Yukoners who are students of post-secondary institutions or are municipal employees or elected officials of local governments who are taking a course of studies toward a career in municipal government and management
  • Applications will be received between September 1, 2017 and September 30, 2017
  • Preference will be given to those that have not received other financial assistance

Challenge – Disability Resource Group

Jinx Ross Scholarship
Amount:
$250
Eligibility

  • Must have resided continuously in the Yukon for not less than two years, immediately prior to date of commencement of classes in the student’s program of studies at an approved institution
  • Must be enrolled in a recognized program in the human services field – includes degree/diploma/certificate programs
  • Grade 12 candidates should average a minimum of 65% on final exam

Department of Education – French Programs

Destination Clic
French First Language Summer Bursary-Destination Clic - Three-week program
Name of organization:
Council of Ministers of Education (Canada)
Amount: $2000 paid directly to the institution to cover costs of tuition, instructional materials, room and board, and compulsory activities. Half of the student’s transportation costs are reimbursed by the institution at the end of the course.

Eligibility

  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident (those studying in Canada on a student visa are not eligible), as well as have your permanent residence outside of Quebec
  • Enrolled in a French-language school (French as a first language), in Grade 8 or 9
  • Full-time student for at least one semester during the current school year

Odyssey
French Immersion Work Experience Program - Odyssey
Name of organization:
Council of Ministers of Education (Canada)
Amount: $18500 salary, 9 months, 25 hours a week, interprovincial travel covered
Eligibility

  • Solid English-language skills, both oral and written. They are a must-have skill set. English proficiency must be as strong as if it were your first language
  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
  • Completion, by the start of your work term and within the last 10 years, of at least one full year of post-secondary studies, college or university

French Post-Secondary Fellowship Bursary
Name of organization: Administered by the Yukon Department of Education's French Programs unit and funded by the Department of Canadian Heritage
Amount: $350 to $1200
Eligibility

  • Yukon resident and/or Yukon high school graduate and Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada
  • Acceptance into a Canadian institution located in Canada
  • A defined section of study must be in French in a milieu conducive to acquiring a better command of the French language

French Second Language Summer Bursary - Explore - Five-week program
Name of organization:
Council of Ministers of Education (Canada) 
Amount: $2200 paid directly to the institution to covers costs of tuition, instructional materials, room and board, and compulsory activities. In addition a $500 transportation allocation is provided by Yukon French Programs with proof of completion of the program.
Eligibility

  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident (those studying in Canada on a student visa are not eligible); and
  • At least in Grade 11 during the preceding school year or be at the postsecondary level by the time your Explore course begins; and
  • Full-time student for at least one term during the current school year

Department of Health and Social Services

Individuals who are presently in any of the following education/residency programs in Canada who meet the eligibility criteria may apply for the bursary for the period remaining in their education and/or residency. For more detailed information please visit http://hss.gov.yk.ca/hpeb.php

Health Education Bursary
Amount:  2 - $5,000 per year to a maximum of 4 years to the top 2 scored bursaries
                4 - $2,500 per year to a maximum of 4 years
The purpose of the bursary is to support Yukon students in attaining basic health education to prepare them for front line entry into one of the identified priority areas within the health section.
Eligibility

  • Proof of Canadian citizenship or landed immigrant status maintained through the period of the bursary
  • Proof of current or previous residency in Yukon of at least 3 consecutive years within the last 5 years
  • Copy of letter of acceptance into an approved health profession education program in Canada.  This can be conditional pending final acceptance

Medical Education Bursary
Amount:  Available to up to 4 new students per year
                $5,000 per year for up to 4 years of medical school
                $7,500 per year for up to 2 years during medical residency, Family medicine only
The bursary is intended to support people who live or have lived in Yukon to attend medical school in the pursuit of a Family Medicine residency program. It is anticipated that students who receive the Yukon medical education bursary support will return to provide medical service to Yukon residents.
Eligibility

  • Proof of Canadian citizenship or landed immigrant status maintained through the period of the bursary
  • Proof of current or previous residency in Yukon of at least 3 consecutive years within the last 5 years or of having received the Yukon Grant provided by the Yukon Department of Education
  • Copy of letter of acceptance into an approved Canadian medical education program. This can be conditional pending final acceptance

Nursing Education Bursary
Amount:  2 - $5,000 per year to a maximum of 4 years to the top 2 scored bursaries
                 4 - $2,500 per year to a maximum of 4 years
The Yukon Nursing Education Bursary is intended to support people who live or have lived in Yukon to attend basic baccalaureate nursing education. It is anticipated that students who receive the Yukon Nursing Education Bursary support will return to provide medical service to Yukon residents.
Eligibility

  • Proof of Canadian citizenship or landed immigrant status maintained through the period of the bursary
  • Proof of current or previous residency in Yukon of at least 3 consecutive years within the last 5 years or of having received the Yukon Grant provided by the Yukon Department of Education
  • Copy of letter of acceptance into an approved Canadian baccalaureate nursing education program. This can be conditional pending final acceptance

Engineers Yukon

Engineers Yukon Education Award
Amount:
two awards, $2000 each
Eligibility
  • Yukon resident student entering into the second, third or fourth year (or fifth year if enrolled in a five-year program) of a Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board approved university engineering program.  A Yukon resident student is considered to be a student who carries a Yukon Health Insurance Plan card.
  • One award is reserved for a student who is Aboriginal (First Nations, Inuit or Métis) and/or female. Applicants are therefore asked to indicate their Aboriginal ancestry if applicable.
  • Applicants must provide an official sealed transcript of their previous year’s academic marks together with a letter from the Faculty of Engineering or Science confirming that the student’s grades place them in the top 25% of their class.

Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada

Girl Guides of Canada National Scholarship
Amount:
$1000 to $2000
Eligibility

  • Applicants must be currently registered members of Girl Guides of Canada
  • Scholarships are conditional on acceptance or continuation in a full-time or part-time program at a recognized post-secondary institution. Recognized post-secondary institutions include universities, colleges and vocational schools where high school completion is the normal entrance requirement (unless entering as an adult student)
  • Scholarship recipients are expected to make reasonable efforts to continue their involvement in Guiding

Knights of Columbus Scholarship of Bishop Coudert Council (No. 6232)

Knights of Columbus Scholarship
Amount: Two awards of $500
Eligibility

  • Letter demonstrating good citizenship and maturity
  • Full-time post-secondary study
  • Yukon residence

The Leonard Foundation

The Leonard Foundation Financial Assistance Program
Amount:
$1,000 - $1,500
Eligibility

  • The Leonard Foundation scholarships are awarded to students enrolled or enrolling in an accredited undergraduate degree program in a College or University in Canada
  • The institutions must be open to all without restriction except for an academic standard
  • Applicants must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants
  • Students must be enrolled in their first undergraduate program as a full-time student.  A student is considered to be full-time if when enrolled for a program's full year credit
  • Only students pursuing a post-graduate degree in Education or Divinity are eligible for continuing support.
  • All applicants will be considered, but when necessary, preference may be given to daughters or sons of ordained clergy, licensed elementary or secondary school teachers, Canadian military personnel, graduates of a Canadian Military College, members of the Engineering Institute of Canada and members of the Mining and Metallurgical Institute of Canada. Preference is also given to those who have previously received an award from The Leonard Foundation.

Eligibility

  • Available for students related to an Eastern Star member (in good standing), who is enrolled in courses leading to a Bachelor of Music degree in the music department of a recognized degree granting university in Canada or enrolled in studies leading to a specialized music degree in a recognized post-secondary institution

    • The award will be made on the basis of scholarship. A minimum standard will be deemed to be an overall average of 75% with 66% as the lowest acceptable subject mark
    • Where more than two candidates are judged of equal worth, financial need may be taken into consideration
