The theme is “Working Together to Support Learning”.  Dr. Wayne Hammond, President & Director of Resiliency Initiatives and Don Barbor, a principal from Terry Fox School in Calgary will be our special guests. We’ll learn about what we can do to positively affect our students’ lives and learning as well as strengthen our communities. They will share their experiences and provide some real examples of how strengthening resiliency leads to improved results for students.

The conference is geared for school council members, board trustees, and association members; however, interested members of the public and community partners are welcome.  School and Department of Education staff members are also encouraged to attend.

Why should school council members attend?

• This is a free twice-annual training opportunity to support member efforts.
• The dialogue is thought-provoking and energizing.
• The conference provides time to network and hear promising practices.
• Departmental officials are at the table to participate in discussions.
• The food is tasty and healthy.
• We even have fun!

But don’t take our word for it…  Previous participants have said:

“The opportunity to ask questions of department officials and make recommendations to them is important.”

“It is very beneficial to share experiences with other councils.  We have a lot of support from other school councils, the department, and the associations.”

“It provided good relevant topics, especially for so many new members.”

“The conference gave me some great tools to take back to other members of the Council.”

Representation from all councils, the Yukon Francophone School Board, and 2 school council associations is encouraged.  Discuss with your membes what you can contribute during roundtable and other sessions.  Prepare to share a success story, school initiative, or special project that is making a difference.
