Do you know someone who has made a significant contribution to education in the Yukon? Consider nominating them for an Excellence in Education Award or for a Ben Sheardown Award for Coaching Excellence.

2011 - 2012 EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION AWARD

POLICY

1. A previously nominated person or group who was not an award winner can be nominated.
2. An agency or business will not be considered for an award.
3. A past award winner will not be considered for a second award.
4. Self nominations will not be considered.
5. A maximum of five serigraphs will be issued in any given year to a maximum total of five award winners. (A winning group would receive one serigraph, the sharing of which would be at their discretion.)

NOMINATION PACKAGE

1. Any individual(s), in any role, having an “outstanding and positive” impact on public school education can be nominated.
2. Nomination packages must respond - by listing specific examples (in four pages or less) - to three criterion. The requisite criteria - ACTIONS, EFFECT, INNOVATION and LEADERSHIP - are explained on a separate reference page.
3. Nomination packages - to support the breadth of support of the nomination - are to include letters of support from the school council, school administration, school staff, and/or others.
4. A portfolio by the nominee (e.g. videos, newspapers) may be considered in the selection process.
5. Only nomination packages received by the deadline will be considered.

SELECTION COMMITTEE

The Selection Committee will be comprised (if possible) of representatives from:
• Yukon Teachers’ Association
• Yukon First Nations Education Advisory Committee
• La Commission Scolaire Francophone du Yukon
• Association of Yukon School Councils, Boards and Committees
• Association of Yukon School Administration (AYSA)
• Department of Education

SELECTION PROCESS

1. Each member of the Selection Committee will receive a copy of the nominations for review in advance of the award selection meeting.
2. The Selection Committee will review only the products on hand. Extraneous information volunteered on a nomination during the selection process will not be considered.
3. Each member will assign a ranking out of twenty points to each nomination. The cumulative score will determine which nominations should receive an award. The nominations (maximum of five) that garner the highest scores will secure an award.
4. The Selection Committee will endeavor to provide an equitable rural/urban distribution of awards. 2 for rural and 3 for urban if appropriate.

PRESENTATION OF AWARD

1. Each single or group award will consist of one framed limited edition Ted Harrison serigraph “Northern Education”.
2. The 2011/2012 Excellence in Education Awards will be presented at the awards evening Friday, June 15th, 2012.
