Print Version: Funding for correspondence courses ![]()
Date Approved: June 28, 2007
LEGAL REFERENCE:
Section 6(a) of the Students Financial Assistance Act ![]()
POLICY:
Historically, post-secondary students who wanted to attend courses by correspondence have been denied funding because they were not studying at an approved institution. Modern technology allows broader access to post secondary education and presents more opportunities for students to study in a home environment.
GUIDELINES:
Post-secondary students enrolled in distance education, correspondence, on-line programs or other programs of study with non-traditional forms of delivery will be considered for funding under the Act. Students are not restricted to studying in their home Yukon community; however, as outlined in the Act, students must be enrolled in a designated institution as a full-time student in order to be eligible. If eligible according to policy YG3A – Airfare/travel allowance policy, students will also receive an allowance for travel.
APPEALS:
The Students Financial Assistance Committee will hear all appeals that do not conform with this policy.
