Gallery Intern/Assistant

The Intern works closely with the board to coordinate day-to-day operations. The Intern acts as Secretary to the Board keeping and producing minutes and emailing those minutes to all members of the Co-op expeditiously. He/she communicates with the Board and the Membership on a continuous basis. He/she plans opening exhibits, special events, and community outreach through public workshop and educational activities. He/she prepares press releases as well as designs posters and invitations. He/she prepares strategic plans as requested. He/she processes all daily sales and maintains the financial information systems associated with those sales.  This includes attributing every transaction to the appropriate artist and ensuring the accuracy of those amounts through the month and at month end. They maintain both paper and electronic record systems. They educate, inform and assists the public and both appreciating as well as in purchasing art in the YAAW Gallery. The Intern maintains the safety of the art collection. The Intern interacts with the public/international visitors in a confident, responsible, respectful manner. Additional language such as German, French or Spanish would be an asset.

Climate Change Research Assistant
Yukon College

The Climate Change Research Assistant will be part of the multidisciplinary team working on climate change projects and research at the Northern Climate ExChange (NCE), Yukon Research Center. The main responsibilities of the Research Assistant include helping with ongoing research projects and planning public outreach on climate change. The Research Assistant will become versed in the science of climate change and the impact being observed in Yukon. They will have the opportunity to collaborate with Yukon environmental and research groups. The Research Assistant will be integrated into that and NCE’s research activities, assisting NCE staff with mainly office projects, but also fieldwork as necessary.
They can look forward to looking in a team environment, contributing ideas and developing products that will meaningfully impact the state of knowledge of climate change science for that North. Enthusiastic, self-motivated students who enjoy learning will thrive in this position.

Heritage & Culture Field School Assistant
Yukon College

The Heritage and Culture Field Assistant will provide logistical and technical assistance in undertaking heritage and culture fieldwork in Whitehorse as it relates to the Yukon College course ANTH144: Heritage and Culture Field School. Working with the ANTH144 instructor and Chair of the School of Liberal Arts, this position will involve organizing, cleaning and purchasing field equipment; participation in planning and undertaking archeological excavations; laboratory description and analysis of archeological collections (including cataloguing artefacts and entering them into a database); archival photo digitalization; historical sites inventory reporting; organizing cultural centre, museum and interpretive sign visits throughout southern Yukon, and assisting the instructor and guest lecturers in organizing their presentations. The incumbent will occasionally be required to work in wilderness conditions, in a cooperative setting. No overnight trips are required, but there will be some day travel components involved.

This Research Assistant position will work as part of a Northern Energy Innovations research program that is directly applicable to the energy industry in the north, as the programs direction is guided by all four utility corporations across the northern territories. Work will require inter-disciplinary skills in electrical, electronics, mechanical, information technology, and data analytics. Work will involve hands on activity, analytical work, literature review, report writing, and presentations of findings to supervisor. Tasks will include: researching and collecting data through complex techniques and procedures, library research, structured interviews or other project specific methodology; interpreting, synthesizing and analyzing data; organizing and reporting on status of research activities; completing research procedures, tests, equipment or software management.

The Science Camp Facilitator will be responsible for delivery of the Science Camps for youth between ages 5 to 15 years old. They will create and/or modify existing curriculum for the science campsand explore ways the curriculum will also encourage kids to look at the Trades.  The Facilitator will ensure all supplies required are on hand or purchased as needed. They will work within a team of other Camp Facilitators to provide campers with supervision, coordinated recreational and educational activities and field trips. Duties include: researching and creating curriculum; maintaining camp files, records and pictures; equipment set up; purchasing supplies through Yukon College purchasing requirements; responding to parent inquiries; school visits/workshops to market camps; administrative office duties; day-to-day operations of delivery of YC Kids Science Camps. Upon completion of the summer camp season, the coordinator will review course content and activities and complete a final report and make recommendations for future camp delivery.

Summer Instructor
Yukon College

The Student Instructor position is an excellent opportunity for students currently pursuing their education/career in Education, Criminology or the Social Sciences. Under the direction of the Yukon College Whitehorse Correctional Centre (WCC) campus instructor, the Student Instructor will assume teaching responsibilities during the summer. The Student Instructor will be responsible for developing individualized education programs for WCC students and for providing both class-based and one-on-one academic instruction in basic literacy, basic numeracy, general upgrading, pre-trades math and college preparation courses in Math and English. The Student Instructor will also be required to assist with the coordination of programming with community partners within the WCC facility. The position requires completion of administrative duties including the maintenance of student files, communication with WCC staff on student performance and participation and other daily and weekly administrative tasks.

This position will be responsible for preparing and facilitating activities for children, youth, and families. Activities might include, but are not limited to: storytelling, reading, arts and crafts, games, drama. Much of the position will involve participating in the community events and activities at Parks and festivals in the Whitehorse area. This will require writing the Book Bike, driving and heavy lifting. Some travel may be required. Other tasks may be assigned by supervising YLC staff.
