Student Regional Social Worker

The Student Regional Social Worker will assist with the delivery of a number of statutory and non-statutory social services in a Yukon rural community under the supervision of the Regional Social Worker and Regional Supervisor including: child welfare: child protection, family support, child-in-care, foster care, adoptions; youth justice: youth probation, alternative measures; social assistance: income support, emergency services, adult services, adult protection: assisting adults that may be at risk of abuse; community development: working collaboratively with First Nations, RCMP, health units, schools, etc., to respond to issues and build capacity within a community.
This position is outside of Whitehorse in one of the communities. Accommodations will be provided.

This position is preferenced to:

Home Care Nursing Student

Under the direction and guidance of a Registered Nurse or LPN, the student will provide support for basic nursing services for Home Care clients as well as developing health promotion and prevention programs for Home Care clients. They will also be involved in a weekly outreach nursing clinic. This will include research, planning and assistance in various therapeutic activities, as well as providing general support to the nursing team in the Home Care programs.

Field of study:

Home Care Therapy Assistant

Under the direction and guidance of a physiotherapist and/or occupational therapist, the student will primarily provide client and program support for Home Care of clients. This will include assistance in various therapeutic activities, organizing and repairing adaptive equipment, research and data entry, and analysis related to Home Care programs.

Under the direction and guidance of senior staff, the student will assist residents in Activities of Daily Living (ADL), provide direct nursing/personal care, and work closely with team members and family to promote increased quality of life for residents. The student will assist in outings, therapy programs, feeding, social, leisure and rehabilitation programs.

Under the direction and guidance of senior staff, the student will work closely with team members to provide increased quality and safety for resident/clients and staff. Audits ensuring accreditation standards are met. Assist with planning for patient safety week, infection control week and occupational health and safety week.

Therapy Aides (2 positions)

The student will be assisting Residents to maintain independence, participate in the life of the facility and benefit from the therapeutic programming tailored to their needs. STEP students would be involved in a variety of activities and programs to support Residents while being independent. From day-to-day they may be assisting with Resident activities of Daily Living (ADL), supporting Residents participate in group activities or programs, plan special events in collaboration with the Therapeutic Services team or attend care conferences with the transdisciplinary team. Students will support the implementation of those care plans and therapeutic programs from physical, psycho-social, spiritual, and emotional domains.

Field of study:
Completion of second-year or higher in Therapies (OT, PT, RT, SLP) OR Kinesiology OR Therapeutic Rehabilitation

Therapy Aide - McDonald Lodge (Dawson)

This position works closely with a care team (including interdisciplinary and social supports). It is responsible for planning and implementing social, leisure, and therapy programming for adults, seniors and elders with disabilities, chronic disease and/or dementias. They will seek out suitable activities to engage residents one-on-one and in group settings; prepare schedules, transportation and supplies needed; coordinate with McDonald Lodge and Home Care staff; and complete planned activities which also includes follow-up such as evaluation and documentation.  The Therapy Aide will complete the above duties while consideration is made for the unique needs of individual clients; assistance is provided with activities of daily living (ADL) and a holistic approach is required (emotional, physical, and spiritual support).  All actions and decisions made by the Therapy Aid or founded on respect for the resident, promotion of their dignity, individual freedoms and choices, and to aid in the meaningful quality of life for the residents.

This position is located in Dawson city. There is no housing provided for this position.

Outreach Employment and Training Counsellor

This position develops, implements, and monitors individualized case plans with clients and their primary case managers, with particular focus on coordinating employment or educational/training opportunities with and for clients. The incumbent will work directly with the case manager and client to address any employment-related barriers they may have, and identify employment or training opportunities for clients based on their interest, skills and strengths. This position will have an outreach and community focus and complete research for employment and training opportunities available to the participants of the program.

The Finance and Program Administration Clerk is responsible for performing a variety of financial operations duties, providing customer service to clients and the public for the Income Support Unit (ISU) and Services to Persons with Disabilities (SPD), maintaining client records and unit files, and for providing program management and administrative support for ISU.  The incumbent responds to the public and clients who are in financial need and/or crisis-including clients who may have mental health issues, cognitive or physical disabilities, and/or challenging behaviors-in a sensitive and respectful manner.

Social Worker, Student

The position is responsible for providing and/or coordinating the delivery of a range of support services to families for the care and development of their children with disabilities. The program provides coordinated access to supports and interventions, supports early intervention to increase a child’s life long potential and promote inclusion of children with disabilities in community life. The duties and responsibilities impact on the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of family support services provided to families and children with disabilities, and impact on the physical, emotional and psychological well-being of children and families. The position assist with strengthening relationships within the family and community, as well as to assist Parents in meeting the needs of their children with a disability. The social work student will also be a part of committees, project work and research tasks.
