Extending nominations and work permits

In some cases a nominee may require an extension of their nomination and/or a support letter for an extension of their work permit.

The Yukon Nominee Program (YNP) is responsible for issuing extensions for nominations, and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) handles issuing extensions for work permits.

For information on work permit extensions, visit www.cic.gc.ca.

Nominees are eligible for a one-time extension of their nomination and/or work permit. Please note that there is no guarantee that an extension for either document will be issued.

Nominees should apply for extensions of their nominations to Advanced Education 30 days prior to the expiry of either of these documents. YNP officers require time to process requests and issue letters.

Any extensions issued are subject to all the same conditions that were in place at the time the original nomination certificate was issued.

Process:

  1. The nominee must provide proof that they have undertaken the permanent residence process.
  2. The nominee must write a letter to the Manager, Immigration, indicating:
    a. Their employer
    b. Their job title
    c. Reason for requesting extension
  3. The employer must write a letter to Advanced Education indicating:
    a. The business name
    b. The job title of the nominee
    c. The nominee’s wage
    d. The employer’s commitment to continue to employ the nominee until he/she receives permanent residency.
  4. The nominee must include a copy of his/her current work permit.
  5. The documents must be submitted to Immigration, Advanced Education, 1000 Lewes Blvd, Whitehorse, Yukon Canada Y1A 3H9.

***If the nominee is issued a letter of support for a new work permit, he/she must bring a copy of the work permit to Advanced Education.
