Yukon Teacher Qualification Information

Every teacher hired into a teaching position in Yukon is required to go through the Teacher Qualification Board.  The purpose of presentation to the Teacher Qualification Board (TQB) is to determine salary category for new teachers based on post-secondary education and past teaching experience.

The Teacher Qualification Board is made up of the Assistant Deputy Minister, Public Schools, a Professional Educator representative, a Yukon Teachers’ Association representative and the Secretary to the Board.  The Board meets once per year, usually in February.

New teachers must submit copies of official transcripts for all post-secondary education completed to the Secretary, TQB.  New teachers must also submit a completed Certification of Teaching Experience Form pdf file from each of their previous School Boards for the Teacher Qualification Board’s consideration.  Please note that in order to recognize past teaching experience, the teaching must be done at accredited schools.  It is important to get all of your documentation into the Secretary, TQB as this will determine your pay for the school year.

Placement on the Teacher Salary Scale is granted as per the Teacher Qualification Board Regulations pdf file.  The TQB makes the final decision regarding placement.
