Experience and Qualifications :

- A Bachelor of Education or equivalent, with post graduate degree or coursework in Special Education, including unique learning challenges;

- A proven record of successful teaching experience, demonstrating learning opportunities to maximize student potential in an extensive range of classroom and special education teaching experiences;

- Demonstrated success coordinating a collaborative, multi-disciplinary School Based Team supporting classroom teachers in identifying and programming for students with diverse learning needs;

- Demonstrated success coordinating a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team to develop, implement and evaluate appropriate Individual Education Plans (IEP's) including assessment to monitor student progress and transition planning;

- Identify and use formal (Standardized Assessment Level B) and informal assessment tools with the ability to interpret, plan and assist classroom teachers implement recommendations;

- Demonstrate success to include, train and support Educational Assistants and paraprofessional staff in the implementation of Individual Education Plans;

- Excellent interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills working with parents, staff members, consultants and related agencies;

- Ability to work as a member of the School Based Team and a willingness to participate in the total school program;

- A record of successful teaching in a cross-cultural setting, with a knowledge of and sensitivity to the traditions and aspirations of First Nation students;

- Committed to living and working in a small, rural community.
