If students or parents are unhappy with decisions made by the Department of Education, schools or school councils, they can apply to the Education Appeal Tribunal for a formal hearing.
The tribunal considers the following matters:
The tribunal is an independent, quasi-judicial body established under section 157 of the Education Act . Its decisions are final and legally binding.
Hearings follow formal procedures and rules of order .
Hearings may be held in any Yukon community.
The chair of the tribunal can appoint a mediator to attempt to settle the matter without a formal hearing.
