Apprenticeship review

The Department of Education conducted a review of its apprenticeship and tradesperson qualification program to ensure the continuing effectiveness of the program.

We contacted apprentices, employers, tradespersons, educators, training institutions, nonprofit organizations and others to see what works well and how we might improve our programs.

The review consisted of:

  • A program review, based on documents, administrative data and comparison to similar Canadian programs;
  • Six focus groups with 73 participants;
  • In-depth interviews with representatives from Yukon government, Yukon College and union associations; and
  • Online and telephone surveys involving 175 participants, including 80 apprentices, 46 journeypersons and 49 employers

We are grateful to all the participants for taking time to share their perspectives.

As of April 30, 2016, there were 453 registered apprentices in Yukon.
