All resident Yukon students who write semester-end or year-end Yukon Achievement Tests or B.C. Provincial Exams in a Yukon school are eligible for a Yukon Excellence Award. You must achieve a test score of 80% or higher on any of these exams. Dependent students attending school outside of Yukon whose parent(s) reside in Yukon are also eligible if they receive a score of 80% or higher on a B.C. Provincial Exam. The Department of Education will notify you if you earn an award. You can redeem your Yukon Excellence Award when you attend post-secondary studies.
You may use your award towards the cost of tuition, compulsory fees, and/or books.

You may apply at anytime during the school year to access your awards. You must redeem your awards within 10 years after leaving high school.
Once your application has been approved, a letter will be sent to you and the institution you are attending indicating how much you will be receiving.

Math and Language Arts
Grade 10 BC Provincial Exams - $300
Math, Science and Language Arts
Grade 11 BC Provincial Exams - $400
Social Studies and Civics 11
Grade 12 BC Provincial Exams - $500
Any grade 12 Provincial Exam, there are about a dozen
The amount paid will not be greater than the total value of the awards you have earned. Any unused portion can be used in future years.

All completed applications are assessed on a first-come, first-serve basis, so the earlier you get your application in, the earlier you will receive your money.
The money is sent care of the financial aid office of the institution you are attending.
Yes, the awards are considered income, therefore, the Federal Government requires you to claim the amount received. Please keep us informed of your permanent home address for T4A forms. For information on education deductions for income tax purposes, please contact Revenue Canada.
No, once the awards have been issued, you will not be required to pay back any of the money you were eligible to receive.
