All resident Yukon students who write semester-end or year-end Yukon Achievement Tests or B.C. Provincial Exams in a Yukon school are eligible for a Yukon Excellence Award. You must achieve a test score of 80% or higher on any of these exams. The Department of Education will notify you if you earn an award. You can redeem your Yukon Excellence Award when you attend post-secondary studies.
You may use your award towards the cost of tuition, compulsory fees, and/or books.

You may apply at anytime during the school year to access your awards. You must redeem your awards within 10 years after leaving high school.
Once your application has been approved, a letter will be sent to you and the institution you are attending indicating how much you will be receiving.
The amount paid will not be greater than the total value of the awards you have earned. Any unused portion can be used in future years.

All completed applications are assessed on a first-come, first-serve basis, so the earlier you get your application in, the earlier you will receive your money.
Your cheque will be mailed care of the financial aid office of the institution you are attending.
You will be issued a T4A for your Yukon Excellence Awards. Each year Canada Revenue Agency issues “Pamphlet 105 Students and Income Tax” outlining entitlements and obligations under the Act. It is the student’s responsibility to determine the taxability of amounts received and to assess the facts of their situation. No, once the awards have been issued, you will not be required to pay back any of the money already sent that you were eligible for.
