Any trade school:
Registering with the Government of Yukon is a necessary step to attract students funded by Human Resources Development Canada.
Under the Employment Insurance legislation, Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC) will provide financial support to individuals attending REGISTERED private sector training institutions or public institutions.
Hence, registration provides greater opportunity for students to receive financial support and assist in attracting students.
Registering with the Government of Yukon gives institutions the ability to say: "100% guaranteed."
Not all private sector training centres offer legitimate training or operate from stable financial bases. These schools destroy the credibility of private institutions in general and may reduce the potential for legitimate operators to grow solid businesses.
Registered trade schools will be included in the Government of Yukon web site and will link to the school's home page.
Download the Trade School Registration
package and submit the necessary documents to the Registrar.
The process is intended to be straightforward. Trade schools will not have to duplicate the registration process if already registered under another governing body, act or legislation either of Yukon or Canada but must submit proof to that effect.
The bond, or irrevocable letter of credit, is for the purpose of securing the performance of contracts entered into by the operator of a trade school relating to the delivery of programs of occupational instruction and the fulfillment of the obligations imposed by the regulations.
The purpose of this fund is to provide for the completion of training of students if the school, program or course offered by the school ceases to exist or the operator becomes insolvent.
Any trade school that must register and comply with another governing body, act or legislation either of Yukon or Canada, are not required to pay duplicate fees to register with the Government of Yukon.
Any trade school in existence and operating in Yukon on September 12, 2000 and currently under the same ownership as on September 12, 2000 are exempt from the Bond and Training Completion Trust Fund Fees. An annual registration fee is still required unless it is a duplicate fee (see above).
