Targeted Initiative for Older Workers

Advanced Education has worked closely with Human Resources and Social Development Canada and Yukon College to develop The Targeted Initiative for Older Workers program for Whitehorse and six community campuses.  Each year the program will provide the opportunity for individuals between the ages of 55 and 64 to develop employment skills to identify which jobs will be the most suitable for them and then give them the tools they need to reach their career goals.

Funding for this program comes from the Government of Canada and Yukon Government Community Training Funds.  It is expected to continue until 2012.

Yukon Government is working to expand every available labour pool in order to assist employers to fulfill their labour market needs.  Research demonstrates that Canadian older workers will be the fastest growing domestic born labour pool over the next 10-15 years.
