Literacy is a life long evolving process that develops a person's ability to read, write, understand and use numbers, information and basic technology in daily activities at home, school, work and in the community, which contribute to optimal health and personal success.
- developed as a result from the Literacy Strategy Review 2006
The Labour Market Programs & Services Unit of Advanced Education works with community organizations to promote literacy and deliver relevant training. Advanced Education has worked with a number of literacy groups to develop and deliver a variety of literacy activities and programs.
The 2001 Yukon Literacy Strategy
review took place from January to March 2006. The 2006 Literacy Strategy Review was an opportunity for literacy stakeholders to provide input into current and future Government of Yukon literacy programs and services.
Implementation of the Yukon Literacy Strategy will assist individuals in acquiring the skills to live responsible, healthy and independent lives. The Literacy Strategy Review is the driving force behind the government's efforts to prepare Yukon people for current and future training and employment opportunities.
Literacy Action Committee's call for proposals is presently closed. The next call will be advertised in 2008. If you have any questions, please email yukonliteracyfund@gov.yk.ca.
