Yukon Summer Career Placement Program (SCP)

"Supporting Employers, Students and Youth Through Summer Work Experience"

Program Description

Yukon Summer Career Placement program is a Yukon Government initiative that provides funding through a wage subsidy  to employers, for helping create a summer job opportunity for students and youth while focusing on local priorities.  

Who can apply?

Employers:  Not-for-profit organizations, Public and Private Sector Employers and First Nations Government andhave operated in Yukon for at least 1 year prior to applying to the program.  

Criteria for Assessing Applications

1) The benefits to be derived by the youth/students doing these jobs.
a) Provide career related work experience
b) Prepare students/youth for the future labour market
c) Prepare students/youth for employment in growth sectors within a community/region
d) Supervision and mentoring.  
2) The extent to which the employer is prepared to contribute to the students/youth income.
3) Applications which address local priorities such as the following (but not limited to):
a) Occupational/Skill shortages 
b) Community Benefit  
c) Environment
d) Homelessness
e) Literacy
f) Youth at risk
g) Tourism   
h)  Disabilities    
i) Short term special events.
4)  Employment opportunities for students/youth with disabilities.  
5) Activities which support the broader goals of economic, community and social development in Yukon.  

Length of Employment

Jobs range from 6 to 16 weeks in length with a minimum of 30 hours per week. The period of employment must occur  between May 1 and  September 1, 2011.

Applications will be posted on the web early January and deadline for applications is Friday March 2, 2012
