Student Transfer Process

Spring Transfer Processto attend a school not in your attendance area
Students may request to attend a school other than their attendance area school.  New students or students already enrolled in a Yukon school should utilize the Spring Transfer Process. To apply for a transfer, submit a Transfer Application pdf file to the Department of Education. Applications will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis where space is available and program supports are adequate.

Students who transfer schools are expected to remain at the new school for a period of one year.  The Spring Transfer Process opens April 1, 2012. Transfer Applications are available at all schools and should be submitted to the following address:

A student under sixteen years of age must have their parent/guardian’s written approval to request a transfer. The student/parents will be notified within three weeks of the status of their application.

Students who attend a non-attendance area school are not entitled to transportation.

Catholic Schools of Whitehorse

TRANSFER PROCEDURE
1. If Yukon Department of Education
• determines that space is available in a school
• and program supports are adequate,
• and after the consultation with the attendance area principal and the non-attendance area principal,
a student whose application was received by the date established will be enrolled in that school in the following descending order of priority:
i. A non-attendance area student whose sibling attended the school the previous year and will attend the school in the next school year.
ii. A non-attendance area student.
2. If two or more students have the same priority category as outlined in 1. Priority entry will be established based on the date and time of application.
3. A student’s residency is determined as of the date that his or her application is received.
4. Once granted a transfer, it is expected the student will remain in that school for that school year.
5. Parents wishing the return of their child to the previous attendance area school shall make application under this procedure.
6. Students transferring under this procedure are not entitled to transportation.
