Community Airports Operations Clerk (Haines Junction)

Aviation Branch in Haines Junction is looking for the right person to be their Community Airports Operations Clerk this summer.  Summer is the busiest time of year at Yukon airport, and we need someone to help Aviation Branch managers to help Yukoner’s use our airports safely.  The job involves providing clerical assistance to the Community Airports Program, so we need someone who can work at a desk most of the day, write well, keep the office organized, and can shift from one administrative task to another as priorities change. By the end of the summer you will have a pretty good handle on how Community Airports work. Project Officer

This position will assist Project Managers in all aspects of project delivery. As a Project Officer you will perform site inspections, prepare tender documents, participate in planning phases, work amongst project teams, and ensure work is being completed according to contract documents. You will provide daily support and project delivery and deliver project update to Project Managers and Senior Program Manager.

Field of study:
Completion of second year or higher in Engineering or Architecture or Mechanical Engineering

Junior Account Manager

Queen's Printer Agency is the government’s official publisher. The agency’s mission is to facilitate and provide visual communication solutions, including print services. As part of the team the incumbent will be involved in a variety of project management functions for in-house and private contractor publishing projects of varying complexity, including French language projects. Under the direction of senior team members, the student will be providing consulting services, advice and education to government clients, assisting in tendering Yukon government projects and processing contract documents.

Functional Analyst

Reporting to the Functional Analyst Service Lead, the Functional Analyst (FA) Is responsible for providing expertise and front end support for improved business processes and computerized systems for the governments business functions. The role of the FA is to capture, consolidate and communicate information from the program areas to the project team and provide end-user training and support. Working as a part of the Service Innovation and Support team, the FA recommends, implements and managers information technology and business solutions in order to improve the delivery of enterprise-wide processes and systems.

Accounting Clerk

Reporting to the Accounting supervisor, the position is responsible for providing accounts payables, receivables, recoveries, reconciliations and filing for the Transportation maintenance Branch. This position will be working with multiple systems conducting procedure tests and revision of procedures by completing all of the accounting clerk‘s tasks. We are looking for an individual who is self-motivated and highly organized. You must be able to work affectively on your own or in a team environment and must be able to manage demands from a variety of sources.

Assistant Spatial Database Administrator

This position will assist in the development and implementation of an asset and maintenance management system used for cataloguing transportation assets and development of work procedures for maintenance of those assets. This will allow for improved planning of maintenance activities and inspection programs. The successful candidate will be part of the software implementation team. Their input derived from experience using the mapping and mobile parts of the software will aid in guiding the customization and development of those modules. The candidate will, at times, be expected to be self-directed in the field to accomplish a given task.

Archaeology Assistant

The incumbent will be required to assist in field surveys and excavations in various locations in Yukon, and will undertake routine archaeological collections analysis and laboratory work in Whitehorse, including cataloging, mapping, research and database maintenance. Assistance in the supervision of secondary school students may be required in certain field projects.

Field of study:
Completion of third-year or higher in Archaeology or Anthropology

Arts Program Assistant

The Arts Section is looking for a dynamic and creative individual wanting to share their passion for the arts with the Yukon public. The position will enhance our team in three project areas: art collection management, arts funding research and records, and community engagement. The Arts Section oversees Yukon government art collections. The student would assist the curator in collection management with responsibilities such as accessing, research, photo documentation and shipment and storage of artwork. The Arts Section wants to expand the collection's online presence in order to increase public awareness. The student's experience with generating creative content for websites and sharing information through social media will support this area of work. Assisting with art installations, promoting arts section projects, and interacting with the arts community are a few of the additional opportunities the student will undertake.

Palaeontology Research Assistant

The Palaeontology Assistant will assist the Yukon Palaeontology Program with the collection and management of Yukon fossils and fossil sites.  Typical office or laboratory work in Whitehorse will include the identification, preparation, labelling and cataloguing fossils, and entry of data into an electronic database. Potential fieldwork will include primitive camping in remote locations for extended periods often in dirty conditions. This position will principally assist with laboratory-based collections management and research and possibly assist with ongoing field monitoring and collecting at various palaeontological sites across the Yukon, including placer gold mines near Dawson city.  Typical fieldwork will include field hiking, fossil collecting, recording field data, and loading and unloading fossils from the field track.

Marketing Intern

The Marketing Intern will provide support to the Marketing Unit, Tourism Branch, of the Department of Tourism and Culture. This position will assist in the support for the accomplishment of general administrative duties planning and implementing special events, media and trade familiarization (FAM) tours, as well as general and/or financial documentation and reporting on activities. This position will also coordinate the Marketing Unit's distribution and maintenance of promotional displays and material throughout the busy summer season. This position may provide support for processing, response to and from filming inquiries regarding the use of photography and video assets owned by Tourism Yukon. This position will provide other marketing support as required for the marketing unit.

Archives First Nations Outreach Assistant

Working under the supervision of the Reference Archivist, the STEP funded Archives First Nations Outreach Assistant will identify images and Yukon Archives holdings (i.e. Whitehorse Star Ltd. collection) Needing First Nations identification and description. The Outreach Assistant will then work under the guidance of the Reference Archivist to plan and conduct 2 to 4 identification sessions to be held in Whitehorse and surrounding communities with First Nations Elders and researchers. Under the guidance of the Reference Archivist, the Outreach Assistant will also plan a collaborative public programme with the Whitehorse Star to be held at the end of the summer. Students in this position will learn to demonstrate an awareness of appropriate professional behavior, ability to plan and manage projects, improve research knowledge and skills, and ability to work effectively with others, communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
