Q Why was the pre-enrolment process introduced?
A This process allows the Department of Education to plan earlier for the next school year so schools have more time to prepare and help ensure each child’s transition into Kindergarten is successful. It will also eliminate the need for parents to line up outside of schools and assist in staffing allocations to schools.
Q How do I find out what attendance area my school is in?
A There will be information on the website. If you do not have access to a computer, you can call 667-5141 for more information.
Q Does this process apply to rural schools?
A No, this process only applies to Whitehorse area schools, including Golden Horn Elementary and Hidden Valley Elementary Schools.
Q What if I want my child to attend a different school than the assigned attendance area?
A Parents are expected to enroll their children in their school’s attendance area. It might be possible to accommodate special requests after the initial pre-registrations are complete, if there is space available.
Q How are decisions made about students who want to attend schools outside their attendance area?
A The normal student transfer process applies. For more information, visit here.
Q Why is École Émilie-Tremblay not participating in the online pre-enrolment?
A École Émilie-Tremblay follows a separate registration process and has elected to continue with their regular practice. For more information, please visit http://www.csfy.ca/fr/
Q What’s the deadline for pre-enrolment?
A There is no deadline. However, in a few cases, classrooms do fill up, and students might need to be assigned to different schools. In those instances, the Department of Education takes responsibility for the student’s transportation. Pre-enrolment forms are processed as they are received.
Q I made an error in my pre-enrolment form; what should I do?
A Errors can be corrected at the time of registration. If you need to correct your mailing address, please phone (867) 667-5141.
Q This data that you are collecting … is it secure?
A Yes. The data is stored in a secure database with strict access requirements. It is protected to ensure privacy for families and children.
Q Do I still have to go in person to the school to register my child in Kindergarten?
A The online form is for pre-enrolment. Within three weeks of pre-enrolment you will receive an information package identifying which school your child will attend and instructions on how to complete the registration in person at the school. Pre-enrolment can be done online from any computer.
Q Is there a different process for French Immersion and Catholic schools?
A French Immersion and Catholic Schools will use this same online pre-enrolment process. After pre-enrolment, the Catholic schools will continue using their usual practice of screening applicants with questionnaires and interviews to ensure the school would be a good fit for the child.
